Off Campus Access of e-resources of BHU through INFED.

Madam/Sir,
Several publishers/aggregators are providing off-campus access through Shibboleth online verification by our server idp.bhu.edu.in which has become a part of INFED (Indian Federation) coordinated by INFLIBNET. Now, the academic community of our university can access most of the subscribed/acquired e-resources off-campus, i.e. from a computer which is not a part of BHU WiFi/LAN. We can access these e-resources from our home or elsewhere.
The access of e-resources needs authentication for which user credentials have been created for teachers/scientists of the university and they have to use their username and password meant for BHU WiFi/LAN. For students, user credentials are being created upon request. There are two methods to come for authentication. One method is to go to idp.bhu.edu.in and select any publisher/aggregator of e-resources listed there. The user will be presented with a login page for authentication. The other method is to visit the publisher's/aggregator's website and look for institutional login. There you can search for Banaras Hindu University in Indian/INFED/INFLIBNET federation or, in some cases, directly. There also you will be presented with our authentication page for login. After successful authentication, user will be redirected to the concerned publisher/aggregator website. This authentication is a single sign-on, i.e. users need not login for other publishers/aggregators on the same browser for the same session.
The publishers/aggregators listed on idp.bhu.edu.in are growing day by day as many are in the process of becoming part of the INFED federation. We are hopeful that this another method of access to e-resources will be convenient for the academic community of BHU.
